An aviation card can be a lifesaver for some Canadians, but many don’t know how to do it properly.
It’s not easy to get a card and fill out forms, and many people don’t even know how the program works.
“A lot of people don ‘t know how many hours you can fly, how many passengers you can get through, how much fuel you can buy, how you can pay your bills,” said Robyn Fournier, a pilot with Flight Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
“It’s kind of a complicated process.
It can take anywhere from an hour to two days, and you need to do everything that you can to do that right.”
For the most part, Canadians don’t need a pilot’s license to fly, but they do need to register with the federal aviation administration.
The registration process is very time-consuming and complex.
“There are certain things that are required to register that are a bit more involved,” Fourniers said.
“But I’ve had a couple of instances where I had to do all of that stuff because they didn’t understand how to register properly.”
Fournier has been flying since 2002.
She’s seen first-hand how expensive this process can be.
“I’ve flown all of my flights since 2002 and every single one of them was with a credit card,” she said.
“So that’s how I know it’s not a one-way ticket, you can always go back and do it.”
While the credit card is required, you still need to pay a fee to get started.
If you don’t have one, Fournie said it’s possible to register online.
She has been able to register since the beginning of 2016.
“Now, it’s pretty easy.
It requires that you have a credit account,” she added.
The registration process can take up to a month to complete, but once it’s done, Faunier said she’s been able see how easy it is to get her certificate.
“The first couple of weeks, I was pretty nervous because I had no idea how it was going to go.
It took me a little bit of time to figure out that the whole process was actually pretty easy,” she explained.”
You can do it pretty easily.
There’s a website that has all the steps.
It takes about 15 minutes, which is actually a lot quicker than you think.”
Faunier says she’s had a few instances of people asking if she could fly with them, but she doesn’t have any problems.
She’s been flying with her husband and two children since 2002, but has also had a handful of trips with her son, who has also been flying.
Fourniers has been through the registration process for four years.
She said she feels lucky to have gotten through it, because it’s important for everyone to know they can fly.
“That’s why I’m so excited about the opportunity to be able to fly with my family, because my husband and my son are so lucky to be flying with us,” she concluded.
